Enlightenment

And Types of Meditation

There are many types of meditation; and I have found many definitions of enlightenment. Meditation of any kind is only a means to an end. Some commonly pursued “ends” are stress relief, calmness, freedom from worries, improved attention, etc.

All of these ends could be easily achieved by following the principles of mind power and techniques for mind control, that I have described earlier. In fact all those methods are actually some kind of meditation.

But I was in search of something beyond all these wonderful states of mind. In fact, my search had begun much before I had entered adulthood, the time when life's many problems resulting from our constant struggle to make a living and support family, start causing unhappiness, and we start looking for solutions.

My search had begun early in my childhood as I mentioned earlier (remember my conversations with my grandfather). I was in search of God!

This is the quote from Eckhart Tolle’s Power of Now, that I had marked as “my grandfather’s teaching” – as I wrote in the ABOUT ME page:

“Everything that exists has Being, has God-essence, has some degree of consciousness. Even a stone has rudimentary consciousness; otherwise, it would not be, and its atoms and molecules would disperse. Everything is alive. The sun, the earth, plants, animals, humans — all are expressions of consciousness in varying degrees, consciousness manifesting as form.”

I had learnt that many ancient sages from India had practiced meditation thousands of years ago, to achieve “enlightenment” and to find God. So I knew that enlightenment and God are connected in some way.

I started researching types of meditation that would help me find God. Some of the available literature on meditative practices pointed to “enlightenment” as one of the goals. However, many of the descriptions of enlightenment were also not entirely satisfactory, at least from my point of view.

After more than thirty years of searching, and following the teachings of Eckhart Tolle and some of my other master minds mentioned earlier, I arrived at a concept of enlightenment, that goes beyond realizing consciousness, or achieving calmness and relaxation, and everything else I had heard or read about.

I know now that enlightenment is more than knowledge, or the absence of darkness, or success and fulfillment of desires in life. It is more than the absence of stress, or a natural state of mind and body health, or freedom from suffering, or a full life, all of which can be achieved by using different types of meditation.

True enlightenment is a sense of reality where you identify yourself with all that is manifest or unmanifest. You see yourself completely merged with the universe, as one with every living and non living thing you see around you. You are IT.

When you acquire this state, you are full of LOVE, for everything and everyone, because YOU are THEM! You are GOD energy, like everyone else, and everything else! You and I are one and the same!!

As I wrote in the section on Body, I practice a unique type of meditation, that came to me spontaneously and that I have now developed into a truly elevating ritual! I have combined this ritual with my daily living room workout routine with amazing results!!

It is a form of mindful meditation, where “I” transcend my mind and consciousness, but retain contact with the true being, which is the innermost core of existence, the only reality.

At the end of meditation, I am fully awake, in appreciation of the world around me, recognizing my GOD energy and experiencing oneness with everything.

Before you start practicing this unique meditation, make sure you have mastered the contents in the sections on MIND and CONSCIOUSNESS, practiced the techniques described there, and experienced  a few glimpses of consciousness and the real YOU. Without that knowledge you are not ready for this step yet!
